April 20, 2017 – The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce CIBC is committing $500,000 over 5 years to support the Healing Beyond the Body program at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.
Healing Beyond the Body is a unique, volunteer support program that focuses on alleviating distress in patients receiving treatment at the Cancer Centre. Psychological distress in cancer patients has been shown to be common, and to have adverse effects on quality of life and the course of treatment.
“We are grateful to CIBC for this generous and timely investment for our Healing Beyond the Body program.  This gift will allow our specially trained and highly dedicated volunteers to provide cancer patients and their loved ones with compassionate support and access to information and resources when they need it most,” says Dr. Gary Rodin, Head, Department of Supportive Care, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Healing Beyond the Body relies entirely on philanthropy. This gift will provide sustainable base funding for the program. CIBC will be our lead partner and champion, helping to increase public awareness about Healing Beyond the Body.
“Cancer is a disease that unfortunately affects so many of our colleagues, clients and loved ones,” says Christina Kramer, Executive Vice President, Retail and Business Banking, CIBC. “We are very pleased to support the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre with a donation to the Healing Beyond the Body program which aims to reduce the negative impact of living with cancer on patients and their families.”

CIBC is a long-time supporter of The Princess Margaret, most notably with sponsorship and staff participation in some of our major events including Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer, Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer and Golf to Conquer Cancer.
“When Healing Beyond the Body launched in 2007 it had just 21 volunteers. Over the years, that number has increased to 130. The program will continue to thrive thanks to the support from CIBC. More importantly, patients and their loved ones will be the ones reaping the benefits of this timely and important investment in supportive care.” says Paul Alofs, President & CEO, The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
